The hip-hop scene in Charleston is a multi-patched quilt. Each individual square holds its own unique energy and represents a beautiful piece of the whole. Denver Lanes and his new single “Like That”, further add to the patch work.
Hailing from Aurora, Colorado, Denver Lanes has been making waves in the city of Charleston for a few years. However, it seems like he has really hit the ground running since late 2021. Gritty visual content and his impudent style, couple together perfectly in his new drop “Like That” which is produced by Jaelen (PyX) and engineered by Otrema Music.
Denver Lanes delivers a creative and authentic take on the new age swagger that is a pivotal part of today’s southern sound.
The bawdy lyrics, bouncy delivery, and no-nonsense attitude presented throughout the track, perfectly executed Denver’s intention of the song: “I tried to convey that it is OK to have a “f*** it” attitude. No explanation needed. Be a boss, talk your stuff, and HANDLE BUSINESS.”
The super catchy hook really sums up the track, but bars like “ice up on my neck and on my wrist/i’m tryna make a milli/broker than a joke I used to be/now i’m actin silly/they say that I’m not, but I am him/see who winnin’ really”, shows that Denver Lanes is on a mission to let the people know that he is indeed THAT GUY and that it’s OK to see yourself as such.
Paired with the track is a high energy, colorful visual shot by Director XJ. I enjoyed the effects and graphic transitions that are heavy throughout the video. My favorite shot is the fishbowl scene because it reminded me of Radiohead’s “No Surprises” video (just not as dark).
“Like That” is great addition to Denver’s full body of work. He’s released a handful of bops in the last year and is currently cooking up with Parkside Plug$, RadTV, Liam Brennan and much more.
