Daddy’s Beemer released a new single on Friday called “Ballerina”. It follows “Studying Roses”, released last month in advance of Extra Chill Fest, and is the second of many new songs that the band recorded in Denmark, SC earlier this year.
“Ballerina” starts with gentle acoustic guitars that are soon joined by violin. Brady sings softly about watching a ballerina dance, and you get the impression that this is going to be a slow-burner of a song.
As soon as that idea passes through your head, though, the drums kick in. Dan puts down the violin in favor of his electric guitar and suddenly we’re caught up in a whirlwind of rock ‘n’ roll.
We can’t help but draw a connection between “Ballerina” and the band’s 2020 single “Dancer”, which comes from their most recent album Denmark, as both songs share themes of strained relationships with dancing ladies.
This makes for a nice pairing in the live setting, as the songs are practically begging to be played back-to-back. Throw “Joan” in the middle and you’ve got the Daddy’s Beemer heartbreak trifecta.
