This morning, The Royal American and Murias Entertainment announced the Matt Monday-curated Cultura Fest, taking place in The Royal American parking lot on Saturday, April 20th. According to an article published by the Charleston City Paper, Cultura Fest will be hosted instead of the annual Summer Shindig this year, with plans for both the Shindig and Cultura Fest to return next year.
My first thought when I saw the Cultura Fest lineup was that it was an absolute home run. Unlike most music festivals in Charleston, Cultura Fest is focused entirely on hip-hop and R&B, and the lineup boasts some of the best talent that South Carolina has to offer in that regard. For just $20, you’ll get to see Matt Monday, Shaniqua McCants, Contour, Abstract – That Rapper & Slim Soul, Benny Starr, Niecy Blues, Jah Jr., Anfernee, Nory and DJ Scrib on the same large outdoor stage that you might have seen at the Summer Shindig.
I really can’t think of a better way to spend your 4/20 in Charleston than by going to Cultura Festival at The Royal American. Tickets went on sale at 10am today. Get yours here, and stay tuned for more news about both this event and the artists playing it right here on Extra Chill.
