Charleston-based pop group Cry Baby released their much-anticipated debut album Everything I Didn’t Say on Friday. It’s an addictive grouping of songs that provides plenty of the nostalgic boppiness we’ve come to love from the band while giving ample opportunity for Jamie Gray’s vocals to shine.
The seven-song project includes three tunes we’ve had the pleasure of hearing as singles earlier this year: “1991”, “Must Be Something”, and “She Likes to Get High”, as well as new tracks “Slower”, “Give You Up”, title track “Everything I Didn’t Say”, and “Prom Night”.
While each of the songs dabble in Cry Baby’s signature 90s/2000s-influenced sound, some tracks include at times vocals adorned with echos and ethereal effects, lending a more modern touch. There are also some unexpected elements on the album, like rap and an electric guitar solo. The result is a fun, well-rounded project that feels satisfying when taken in from start to finish.
