What more fitting way to kick off summer in Charleston than with an evening celebrating the fusion of surfing and art?
This Saturday, May 20, Hed Hi Studio on King Street will present “Check It:” an exhibition featuring legendary Southern California surf artists Andy Davis and Jon Wegener.
Andy Davis grew up by the beach, enthralled by surf and surf culture from a young age. His brightly-colored paintings present a lively and unique view of the sport while referencing the classic surfing imagery of the past.
Jon Wegener also grew up in Southern California, entranced by the sport of surfing. He is an expert woodworker who has been shaping boards since 1987. Wegener handcrafts boards of all kinds, determined to make them as sustainably as possible.
Together, these two icons of the surf scene will join forces to create an unmissable art experience for all of the surfers, beach bums, and art admirers in Charleston.
The Mango Furs, an alt-rock band based out of Nashville, TN, will provide tunes for the evening.
The show is free and will run from 6-10pm.
Hed Hi Studio is located at 654 King Street, Suite D. Check out their website for more info.
