Brave Baby are back in action with a new single, “Standard Deviation.” The track, which was released on Friday, shows the band playing with a more synth-heavy, electric sound.
The song’s funky opening groove contrasts with the lyrical subject matter, which is heavier, describing disputes between friends and the tension that can buildup within relationships from many small, forgotten disagreements. “The sky’s bound to fall” and “you know this isn’t working,” Masters sings.
The vocal pace quickly picks up during the chorus, differing from the slower build up and making for a compelling listening experience. The synth vibrates on throughout the song, skewing toward an 80s sound in the latter half that comes closer to mirroring the tension the lyrics describe.
“Standard Deviation” reminds us how happy we are that Brave Baby is releasing new music once again.
