Big Something Announce New Album, Headspace, Share Single “The Mountain”
    Published: September 12, 2023

NC-based Big Something’s latest song, “The Mountain”, dropped last week as the lead single to their upcoming seventh studio album, Headspace, due out on November 17th.

The release of “The Mountain” came just one week after the band’s performance in Charleston, SC, in support of SUSTO’s Labor Day Homecoming at The Refinery. The band also just announced a three night stand at the Charleston Pour House on February 15th – 17th, 2024, plus tour dates all over the country between now and then.

“The Mountain” was written in honor of the group’s late friend, Paul Interdonato, who was the principal lyricist for Big Something prior to his passing in 2017.

Paul was the lifelong best friend of guitarist/vocalist Nick MacDaniels, who explains, “‘The Mountain’ started with one of the last lyrics I have written down in a journal from Paul. Coming up the mountain, I can see it all again – the chorus is a metaphor for getting over trauma.”

The band also spotlights Sound Mind Live with this release, a non-profit organization that catalyzes action on mental health by fostering community, open dialogue, and support-seeking on mental health through the power of music.

In addition to posthumous collaboration with Paul, “The Mountain” features a co-write from Justin Osborne of SUSTO.

“The Mountain” is a high-energy rager, complete with fuzzed-out guitars reminiscent of 90s rock, and a saxophone solo as the funky cherry on top. The lyrics look to the mountaintop for a glimmer of hope, reaching the top with a renewed sense of wonder and peace with the world. It’s a fitting introduction to an album that is shaping up to be quite special.

Stream “The Mountain” by Big Something below, and stay tuned for more on Headspace. We’ve got word that Big Something still has a few tricks up their sleeves.
