Band of Horses released a delightfully bizarre music video for their most recent single “In Need of Repair” this week. It was crafted by Easy Pete’s creative consultancy out of Los Angeles. Stylistically, the video is off-beat in a sense that feels something like Wes Anderson meets a lighthearted David Lynch. Retro-style graphics and motifs add a cheeky touch to an already idiosyncratic landscape.
The video follows an eclectic group of people through various scenarios in which they try to ameliorate a peculiar problem, creating an even worse outcome. I won’t spoil the fun for you, but picture this: tennis rackets for hands, at home blepharoplasties with a cheese knife, forcible tongue transplants…the list goes on. Each scene creates a strangely appropriate backdrop for the song.
In closing, the video features an infomercial for a computer tax system whose tagline is “not all problems call for extreme solutions.” Perhaps it is best to trust a cautious professional with the things we think are “in need of repair.”
