Band of Horses Announce New Album, Things Are Great, Share Single “Crutch”
    Published: October 13, 2021

Today, Band of Horses announced that their new album Things Are Great will be released on January 21st. It’s their first new album in over five years, following their 2016 release Why Are You OK.

Frontman and songwriter Ben Bridwell produced or co-produced many of the songs himself, with none other than Charleston’s Wolfgang Zimmerman serving as co-producer for much of the album. Past collaborators Jason Lytle (Grandaddy), Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips) and Dave Sardy also got in on the action.

The lead single “Crutch” was released today, co-produced by Bridwell and Wolfgang and partially recorded at Wolfgang’s old storage unit studio, and then wrapped up at Echo Mountain in Asheville and mixed by Dave Sardy in Hollywood. The track is upbeat and full of energy, and if it’s any indicator of what the rest of the album will sound like, I’d say we have a lot to look forward to.

Here’s what Bridwell had to say about it.

I think like a lot of my songs, “Crutch” starts with something from my real life. Obviously “Crutch” means some of the things that I was dependent on. My relationship for one. I think I wanted to say, “I’ve got a crush on you,” and I thought it was funny how relationships also feel like crutches. I feel like everybody has had a time when nothing goes right and you still have to carry on. I think that feeling hits you in this song even if you don’t know what the specifics are.
