Anyone who has paid attention to the Charleston music scene over the past few years has watched Abstract – That Rapper climb out of the College of Charleston scene and into citywide recognition. He’s won the Charleston City Paper music award for best local hip-hop artist twice, and as stated by his social media post earlier today, this has all been without an album, or really any major release aside from the 2018 single “Mumble Rap”.
Abstract has made a name for himself by straight up beinghimself. By making connections through genuine interactions, and by impressing the audience when given the opportunity to perform.
If he’s done all this without an official release, it isn’t hard to think what he can accomplish when he finally does release a record. With yesterday’s release of “This What You Made Me Do”, Abstract made a subtle, yet much more important announcement. He has an EP coming out soon, called the Mosaic EP, and “This What You Made Me Do” is a track that didn’t quite make the cut. That made our ears perk up.
Listen below, and stay tuned for more news on that EP very soon. Catch Abstract – That Rapper this coming Thursday, January 23rd at The Royal American, where he’ll join Tazz Majesty and Walter Brown for a stacked night of local hip-hop. Facebook event here.
