5 New Year’s Eve Parties That Won’t Suck Balls
    Published: December 26, 2017

Update: Looking for New Years Eve plans in 2021? Check out our very own event, An Extra Chill New Years Eve!

Everyone’s heard of the Yorktown Countdown at Patriot’s Point and the Snyder Grand Ball at the aquarium. Those are two fine events, if you’re into that kind of thing. But chances are if you’re reading Extra Chill you aren’t interested in spending $150 to dress up in a suit or formal dress and bring in the new year with a club DJ. These five New Years Eve parties in Charleston will help you mostly avoid the aging frat crowd while enjoying some great live music.

    1. Brave Baby, Human Resources, and 2 Slices @ The Royal American

I’m pretty biased toward The Royal American on this site, but their New Years Eve party is, in my opinion, your best option this year. You’ll get to see performances from three of Charleston’s coolest bands at the most awesome bar on the peninsula. Best of all, the party is capped at 200 tickets, so you don’t have to worry about it being too packed.

    Tickets $45
    Available here
    8pm

Lo-Fi Brewing – $3 pints, $5 pitchers of Mexican Lager

    2. Perpetual Groove @ The Pour House

If you’re in the mood to close out 2017 with some mellow jams, P-Groove will be playing two nights at The Pour House, 12/30 and 12/31, along with a daytime acoustic set on the deck on NYE. Ross Bogan Trio will play between Perpetual Groove’s acoustic set and their full-band nighttime set on 12/31.

    Each Night is $25
    2-day pass is $40

    Acoustic deck set is $10

    3. Chucktown Countdown @ Omar Shrine Temple – Atlas Road Crew, Christian Hannon, Soul Fish

Right down the road from the Yorktown Countdown will be the Chucktown Countown at Omar Shrine Temple. This is an annual event that started in 2016 with a headlining set from Stop Light Observations, and returns in 2017 with Atlas Road Crew. Keeping it in the Chucktown family will ensure success for years to come.

    Tickets $80
    VIP $125
    Available here
Both ticket tiers enjoy open bar

    4. Jump, Little Children with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and Katie Rose at Charleston Music Hall

The Charleston Music Hall has hands-down the best acoustics in town. Their New Years Eve show isn’t exactly a party, but will certainly make for a great evening. Jump, Little Children is playing two nights in a row with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, 12/30 and 12/31, and on NYE they will also be joined by Katie Rose.

    Tickets $45
    Available here

    5. New Year’s Eve on Shem Creek

Red’s Ice House teamed up with Tavern & Table to throw an awesome New Years Eve party on Shem Creek. At Red’s you’ll find live rock music from Saluda Shoals and Ellen Drive, while Tavern & Table will have a dance party with DJ RJ. Oh, and fireworks.

    General Admission $90
Includes all of Red’s and outside at Tavern & Table

    VIP All-Access $125
    Includes everything

    Tickets here

Both ticket tiers include food and open bar
