    vision

lyricism (i feel like i rate them separately)

    flow

    charisma or X factor

admittedly, I’m looking at this more from a studio side but live is absolutely just as important to consider. cool thread Indi!

Lyricism / flow / delivery #1 for sure

    beat selection

    persona

    social consciousness

I like to think of Lil Wayne at his peak as someone who checked all of these boxes. That dude was just the coolest guy in hip-hop across the board for a minute. I was obsessed with his whole image when I was in high school

Persona is the biggest one for me. I like to feel like I’m rooting for a supervillain when I listen to rap music. I want them to be a drug dealing, potentially murderous individual with no respect for society or its rules.

All of their other attributes must play into this persona, from the lyrics, to the beat selection, to the crowd control (or lack thereof).

Travis Scott is one great example of the demonic rapper archetype. Something about that raw edge is just so appealing to me, despite the negative societal implications that may come along with it.
