in reply to: Writing a Press Release for a Music Event
Ahh just seeing this!! This is so sick, thank you!!!
in forum: Music DiscussionCool little festival in Savannah. Booked by what is probably the closest thing that Savannah has to Extra Chill in terms of booking (that i know of), Dog Days Presents.
I was just talking about creatively booked independent events and here we go. One of the bands on this lineup will be playing an Extra Chill event in Charleston during the same weekend as the festival.

in reply to: Anyone else come full circle on Noah Kahan?High water seems pretty lazy this year. Not a noah guy. I got to give him more of a chance. He sounds whinny….at least the one song that the radio keeps spoon feeding me. Humble brag, went to highwater via boat last year.
in forum: Music DiscussionSup y’all. @meghanveino is an intern for Extra Chill at CofC this semester. For her internship I’m going to be showing her how I write press releases for Extra Chill. Instead of doing this via email, I’m going to do it right here on the forum. Maybe somebody else will find it valuable in the future.
The event I’m sending this press release for is happening on April 5th, 2024 at the Music Farm in Charleston, SC. I’m planning to send the press release on the morning of February 13th at...

The event I’m sending this press release for is happening on April 5th, 2024 at the Music Farm in Charleston, SC. I’m planning to send the press release on the morning of February 13th at 10 am. Which the exact time that the event will be announced.
Since I’m still more than five days away from sending, I’m still in the “information gathering” phase. This really is the most important part, because your press release is only as strong as what’s inside of it.
What’s the point of a press release?
The main idea of a press release for a music event is to give journalists the easiest possible path to present your event to their readers. This means that your press release should be able to be copy and pasted by a “writer” and published without them having to lay a finger on your prose. With all relevant information presently cleanly and concisely.
It might sound stupid but it’s the truth. A lot of blogs and places that publish press releases will simply copy and paste the content of the email into their blog. Most of them won’t even open the email, truthfully. The real journalists will contact you looking for more information.
Obviously you want the real journalists, so you want to catch their attention, but even the copy and paste outlets provide both long and short term value. Short term, simply an amplified voice. Long term, increased presence on the internet and perhaps the holy grail: A link back to your website.
The next step
This post was just an introduction to get the ball rolling, but I will literally craft the entire press release, with thoughts about my philosophies, in this thread. Then send it out via email the morning of February 13th, and come back to post my results after sending, if any. Stay tuned, and feel free to ask questions.
in reply to: Anyone else come full circle on Noah Kahan?I’m also going to High Water, and am interested on seeing what Noah Kahan brings to a live show. For his fame though, I guess ultimately it will depend what happens when he releases his next album. He’s got one viral hit album and he blew up. It’s going to be hard to sustain that if he can’t blow everybody’s mind with the next album.

As a 30 year old boomer who’s never been on TikTok I can’t really speak to that aspect of it, but I do respect the hustle. He was able to game the algorithm and it made him mega famous and if he doesn’t blow his money he’ll never have to work another day in his life. And he’s only 27 right now. We’ll see how it unfolds.
Taylor Swift has been around forever, she has snowballed over time to her current status as the most famous American artist in the world. Her fame is something that will be studied in the future. It’s insane how famous she is really. I’m not a Taylor Swift hater at all. It’s still just bullshit that she won everything because it’s so clearly all about trying to cash in on the T Swift mega fame gravy train.
