You may have noticed that my username is a play on the lyrics from Brand New’s “Okay I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don’t”.

Brand New were one of the first bands in the pop-punk genre to be canceled, back in 2017. They are also the best band in the genre, musically, in my opinion and the opinion of many others. They had/have a huge cult following that hung on every word, and their concerts were transcendent.

Here is the NPR story about Jesse Lacey’s allegations from 2017: https://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2017/11/13/563807010/brand-new-frontman-jesse-lacey-apologizes-for-sexual-misconduct-postpones-tour

Long story short, Jesse Lacey, the frontman, was accused of sexual misconduct involving a couple of younger fans. This news came out during what was advertised as their final tour. They canceled the remaining tour dates, including the UK leg of the tour, and essentially went into hiding.

Most assumed that was the last we would ever hear about Brand New.

However, recently, there have been rumblings from the Brand New camp, including a private show in Nashville that was confirmed to have happened on December 17th at the Eastside Bowl.

Setlist from 12/17 Brand New in Nashville:

    Unknown new song
    Unknown new song
‘Bands With Managers’ (Pedro the Lion cover)
    ‘At the Bottom’
    ‘Waste’
    ‘Batter Up’
    ‘Mattresses Underwater’ (Colour Revolt cover)
    ‘Jesus Christ’

And then, last night, January 31st, Brand New frontman Jesse Lacey played a private show at the Silvertop in Los Angeles.

    aloC-acoC
The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot
Two-Headed Boy (Neutral Milk Hotel cover)
When I Say That I Love You
    Degausser
    Cut The Line (Live premiere)
    Death
    Waste
    Jesus Christ
    Play Crack the Sky
Two-Headed Boy, Pt. Two (Neutral Milk Hotel cover)

Needless to say, this news has many Brand New fans completely fired up. The band’s cryptic history, known for dripping the slightest amount of info to fans, seems to have gotten the tinfoil hat machine back in motion.

It has been 7 years since the last Brand New show, and now the rumors of a new album and/or tour are in full swing. This is exciting news for many. Some remain skeptical, and others likely do not want to see a Brand New reunion.

Any other Brand New fans around here? Do you think we will see a new Brand New album in 2025?

Personally, I’m expecting a small tour in the fall. Probably an album, too.

I am also a huge Brand New fan. I was at one of their last shows, in Charleston on 10/25/17. It was a major bummer to hear about these allegations, especially considering I have the astronaut from Deja Entendu tatted on my back. The band has gotten me through some of the hardest times in my life.

That being said, I do believe there is a lot more to come from Brand New this year. The way they are going about this secretive reunion is totally on brand for them, and I’m expecting to be surprised with new music.

Couple other things I heard about this solo show:

    1. The rest of the band was at the Jesse solo show.
    2. People were specifically asked not to record any of the new songs.

Here are some videos from that night:

    Degausser

    Play Crack the Sky

    Jesus Christ

As a bonus, which has nothing to do with this reunion rumor. Their set at ACL in 2015 is an absolute classic.

Excited to hear more about this in the coming months.

Here is a recording I found on YouTube from the whole Jesse solo show last night in Nashville.

At this point I’m fully expecting a Brand New album this year. Maybe a bigger tour return to ACL Fest in the fall?

You know they have to play in NYC as well. MSG?
