    Hey Beatsville

To perform at a major music festival, first you will have to make a name for yourself, and then the festival booking team would approach you.

For a smaller festival, such as one on the local level, a lot of it is about who you know.

I’ve booked my own festival 5 times, and each year I mostly worked with artists that I had gotten to know via running Extra Chill over the years.

Only a few of the acts I have ever booked are artists that I don’t have some kind of personal relationship with.

I think the saying “it’s all about who you know” rings super true in the music industry, from the local level to the top.

Getting involved in the local scene near you, attending lots of events, and meeting lots of local artists is a great way to stay on people’s radar.

I guess there are also some festivals that take applications, but most of them are going to have a few key people deciding the lineup and negotiating with all the talent.

Major events like Bonnaroo and Coachella probably have a whole booking team behind them, maybe even dividing the lineup up into segments for different teams to handle based on genre.
