    My top three:

1 – “Wet Dreamz”, J. Cole, 2014 Forest Hills Drive.

My favorite conversational song of all time. This album guided me through the debut of my depression phases at 15 years old. It remains my favorite off the album. Yesterday J. Cole announced he will be playing this album front to back at MSG on December 16th for it’s 10 year anniversary. I’m already getting nauseous from the fomo.

2- “Mercedes Benz”, Janis Joplin, Pearl.

Jesus. I just love Janis. This one gets me. On so many levels. Mostly because owning any pre 2010 Mercedes Benz would complete me. Her raspy, soulful voice makes this weird little song come together so Janis-ly. Blasting this on a good set of speakers makes me feel like I’m sitting around the fire w her in the late 60s.

3- “Denial is a River” , Doechii, Alligator Bites Never Heal

Doechiiiiiii! Holy fuck. If you haven’t gotten on the Swamp Princess wave, get on it! Doechii is an incredible artist who we’ll see win best new artist awards and who is getting an incredible and well deserved amount of recognition recently. She wrote this track from a journal entry. Ugh. The rage. The chaos. This song is an awesome depiction of navigating sexuality in early womanhood. I guess the voice she’s talking to is her journal and it’s just so fucking good. Doechii, I can’t wait to see what you do next.
