This is why I don’t like watching music videos, hearing artists’ interpretations of their own lyrics, or even sometimes seeing photos of them. To me this song was about God, or a higher power of some sort, I liked to think he was making God a women, but it’s disappointing to think he’s referring to a partner, a human partner, as as wonderful as love is, and as lovely as devotion and love for our loved ones is, something bigger than us is to thank for that love, for nature, for creation and for all that transcends this world. But after seeing a photo of him, I have a feeling he’s not a believer, sorry to judge but that hipster facial hair just ruins it for me, though I know it’s often the case with modern day bluegrass and folk. I know Im likely underestimating some of their depth and authenticity, but I also Know I’m not in many cases. Alas, I’ll just stick to listening like I always have.
