Figure I’d put out the bat signal here for any fellow Extra Chill readers who will be making the pilgrimage to Delaware for the Phish festival in August. I’m in and I know @qrisg is in too. Some other Extra Chill folks who haven’t signed up yet will also be there…

Pretty excited, this will be my first time attending a Phish festival. I’m going to print some bumper stickers to hand out to people.

I’m in – I have an extra GA Parking pass (needed to reserve a campsite) bc my crew bought too many – if anyone needs it I’ll ship it for free and you will save some money. With an extra 20 bucks you can get in a day early with the car camping and get in on the speculation of whether the sound check will be open to the public. Wristbands are also required to get in unless you hide your friend in the bed of your truck and they aren’t searching for trunk wooks

Damn PartyBoyGEasy in the house! You know it’s gonna be a good time. I still haven’t Sat down to look at everything, so I don’t have a plan yet at all. I think we are gonna try to film a bunch of content and maybe do some interviews etc.

I was hoping to trunk wook my way in with @chubes. Guess that isn’t an option. Dang it technology!

I recently went down the rabbit hole of Phish Festivals and explored every single festival that the band has done to date in an article on Extra Chill. This article tells the story of Phish through the lens of their festivals and gathers music, memories, and links to firsthand accounts from each. I wrote it in anticipation of Mondegreen which I’ve been making plans to attend, hopefully with a media pass.

I think Phish fans would like it, from those like myself who will make their Phish festival debut at Mondegreen, to those who have been to every Phish festival. Even non Phish fans might find something to enjoy in there — even if it’s just morbid curiosity.

The week is finally upon us! While this forum thread may not have had the action I was hoping for over the past few months, I am excited to make my trek up north to partake in Mondegreen. There is a good chance that I will post thoughts in this thread throughout the festival. Maybe I’ll meet some folks who will also join us here!

I am bringing close to 500 Extra Chill stickers to hand out to people at the festival.

Arrival – we showed up early yesterday and hit the box office not long after they opened. we ended up camping in Pod 2, with camp set up by noon or so.

i have to say that this was the most well-organized festival entrance i’ve experienced in my life so far. maybe it was because we got in early, but everything seems very well thought-out. We experienced very little BS or confusion coming in.

Overall, this festival has a similar feel to Bonnaroo, in terms of camp setup and vibe. The difference is that everyone is here for the same band. Which means that everyone already has something in common.

the fact that something is Phish is pretty dope

The venue opens today at 12pm. Me and @marleyfacedboy are gonna head in there and check it out when it does.

Beer prices are ridiculous, as to be expected. $16 – $18 a pop. However we can drink as much as we want at camp from our coolers.

music starts today at 6:30pm. Two sets of Phish in Delaware!

very exciting times here at the ‘Green

      day one

first day of music in the books. I am a slime ball already. The show last night was pretty amazing, especially the second set.

It was overwhelming at first for me, when the band started playing. The sheer scale of this event and the massive amount of people in that field was a lot to take in. I guess i didn’t really know what i was getting myself into with the concept of a Phish festival.

by the time the second set started i had cooled down, and felt like i had found my footing. @marleyfacedboy and i found a much more chill location and found our groove.

      the music

the first set felt like a back to back hits warmup set. I liked it, but the second set was where i personally found the groove and became comfortable inside this wild vessel that is Phish Mondegreen

We stood in line for water during almost the entirety of “what’s going through your mind” which is pretty ridiculous. The lines to get water are really not cool at all. It seems classic at this point for festivals to fuck over attendees in this way to sell more water. I thought Phish would be above that but apparently not.

the meat of the set for me came for the segment between “Light” and “Prince Caspian”. “Light” descended deep into a dark, chaotic jam, down, down, down… until they landed smoothly in “Prince Caspian” for a moment of triumph.

“crosseyed and painless” was a party and then they went into “lonely trip”. The ballad was sweetly sung and i think it will sound nice on a relisten for sure.

“Everything’s Right” was a ton of fun and whole encore was epic. Overall it was a great first day and my first ever Phish festival show.

very happy to be here. Very glad that there are still 3 more days of music. It’s time to eat some pancakes and get ready for another day.

      Day two

Wow, what a crazy night! I’m sitting here in the rain on Saturday morning with two more nights ahead of me.

They played two sets last night, and near the end of the second one Trey told the crowd not to go back to their campsites after the set. Then they returned for a full ambient jam with incredible HD lighting effects on a streaming screen that hung in front of the stage.

really great show through and through. Never seen so many spun wooks in my life. Going to the bathroom after Fluffhead meant wading through the sea of wooks, who were busy gathering the pieces of their minds. Myself included.

Back at the campsite we stayed up all night laughing our asses off and talking about life and Phish. Around 3am a wook walked by our campsite very slowly and stopped a couple cars down. He was silent for a moment, and then he hollered, at nobody in particular, “bump of coke for a balloon!”

lol. Some of the people here are sketchy and way too spun. Lots of people with kids which is a questionable decision based on what i’ve witnessed so far at this festival.

hope the rain stops soon because we didn’t really prepare ourselves for this situation at our campsite.

      SET 1

Page was straight up trolling last night on “My Pet Cat”. Those kitty screeches were pretty intense. Maybe a little too intense but going back into “Ruby Waves” and then “Ghost” made it all worth it.

Then, yeah. That “Fluffhead”. Holy shit!

Shared some photos  i took yesterday while wandering around the venue. I’m planning to take some more, when it stops raining. It’s hard to take photos at night especially because everyone is super spun. I wouldn’t want to harsh anyone’s mellow by pointing a camera in their face lol

What i’m hearing, not sure if true, is that Phish planned to do that special ambient set tonight but swapped it to last night due to the threat of rain tonight.

Since they already did a three set show last night, I am expecting to see a three set show tonight as well. Let’s see if they end up doing that.

Maybe three sets tonight and something unique tomorrow evening to close out the festival.

Here’s to hoping the rain clears up and the party can continue for two more nights as planned!

      Day three

amazing night last night. Show was a giant dance party. The rumors about Phish doing 3 sets last night were false, but still, the show was just awesome.

friday’s show was trippy and out to space, last night was a fun and silly dance party. The campground party and vibe was much less spun and much more happy.

This festival makes me want to drop everything and go follow Phish on tour.

“meatstick” was so much fun in the first set. And “down with disease” & “tweezer” and really the whole second set just incredible. I’ve never danced so much in my life.

today’s show was been moved to 1pm due to the threat of rain. That’s a bummer but I truly have faith that Phish is going to deliver yet another incredible showing this afternoon. In the rain…

I think last night’s show will be one to pull up when you’re looking for a party. I will definitely listen to that one again. Amazing time.

maybe my favorite Phish show that i’ve seen to date? Band is so good, i’ve seen so many good shows, it’s hard to decide which was the best. Long live Phish.

so incredibly glad i came to this festival

SET 1: Mike’s Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove, Theme From the Bottom > Blaze On, Gotta Jibboo, 46 Days, Evolve, Meatstick > David Bowie

SET 2: Also Sprach Zarathustra > Oblivion, Down with Disease >  Tweezer > Scents and Subtle Sounds > Boogie On Reggae Woman, Carini

      day four

Yesterday’s show was moved forward to 1pm due to incoming rain and thunderstorms. Phish ended up playing an extended one set show. I guess they just got screwed by the weather. It was brutally hot outside but the music they did play was great.

I was still riding the wave from the previous night’s dance party and boogied all afternoon long. We got to meet up with some Charleston fam during the set as well which was also great.

After the show we hung around the venue a bit and took it all in one last time. This was a great experience and I love Phish even more now. Saturday night’s show was the most fun I’ve had dancing at a concert in my life.

The campgrounds started to clear out pretty quick after the show ended. It’s now Monday morning and we’re about to clean up and leave. Others will do the same shortly, and we enter back into the reality of our daily lives.

      What an epic weekend!

SET 1: Party Time, Axilla -> Maze, Steam, Martian Monster, AC/DC Bag, Sigma Oasis -> Rift, Stash, Ya Mar, Timber (Jerry the Mule), Bathtub Gin > Izabella > Simple > Golden Age

      ENCORE: Fuego

I want to also mention that they added several water fillup stations after that first night of shenanigans. By Friday morning there were three more places to fill up your water bottle in the festival area. Some flooding as a result, but overall this reduced the lines at all the water stations significantly and showed how much this band actually cares about their fans.

Here is the soundcheck from Wednesday night, which I unfortunately slept through after setting up camp. Thanks to Joel for sending this stuff to me.

Another video from the secret set

And finally, The Bunny Radio Spotify playlist. Bunny Radio crushed it all throughout Mondegreen, capping off the festival with “1999” by Prince and a wonderful array of songs before that on Sunday.

I’m planning to write up a more professional review of Mondegreen in the next week or so, which will include more fleshed out thoughts and things about the event. But for now, I’m reflecting, working, and getting back on track after a crazy week.

One last thing… Oblivion > Down With Disease from Saturday night’s show. After this came Tweezer and the whole thing was amazing. I’m really glad I got to witness that and be part of the experience.

I have been collecting my thoughts this past week and will be working on a full overview of my Mondegreen experience on the main blog. Took a decent amount of photos too, not quite as many as I would have liked, but I will also include those in my writeup.

Mondegreen Tweezer is also on YouTube now. This part of the show — and the whole second set this night, was just an incredible vibe. I loved every minute of it.
