That’s right all you Kensington folks – get out of the open air drug market for two hours so the city can finally redevelop it for condos – get those needles out of your arms – scarf down some Suboxone to help with opiate withdrawal of leaving the wagon behind, and get DOWN to what is going to be a really heady event.

(Sorry for making jest about opiate addiction. For those of you unfamiliar, Kensington – particularly what is called “McPherson Square” is home to one of the world’s largest open air illegal drug market. I was having trouble starting the post so I opted for poor humor. July 4th is coming up, and boy do I love my country whose approach to addiction, homeless, and poverty wrapped in one is to clear out encampments as soon as people leave, arrest them upon return, just to redevelop some shit, rather than just providing some public housing for these people – oh I don’t know – maybe the cost of policing, lost drug revenue, public health costs — all adds up to more than just building some free fucking housing? Well yeah but this is Merica so fuck the poor and especially now – the migrants).
Don’t worry though out of towners, this show is two miles away from the fun at McPherson Sq at a newer bar (translation – I haven’t been there yet) + restaurant + venue called Say No More. It’s located 1647 N. 2nd St., which on the map looks like it’s more in Fishtown than Kensington. Maybe the bar self describes itself as “Say No More Kensington” on its website because it knows that Fishtown is mid. In any event, it looks like a cool space – a three floor funhouse with a Cape May crab-house white and black tiley-prohibition vibe going on the lower floors and featuring “live jazz and dj events throughout the week,” on the upper floor.
Anywhoo – Flamingosis is playing there Saturday night June 14. Tickets are under 20 bucks. Flamingosis is one of my favorites. Born in New Jersey, currently based out of Brooklyn, he is one of the most gracious and approachable musicians in terms of his music, and his sensibilities, that you’ll ever have the pleasure of experiencing. In various media, he has been open about dealing with issues of negativity and self esteem. He never outright said “depression” but he was open about how you need to be self aware, have a healthy mindset, be open about your needs and seeking help, and not being ashamed with “instrusive thoughts.” He just came out with a new album that is about renewal, faith in the self, keeping a positive outlook, being present and aware of how your actions affect others. Often, fears we project upon others, are actually fears we hold ourselves. It’s because we often see ourselves in those we love. Not being aware of your own fears and faults, makes you vulnerable to mistreatment of others, as it is easy to project those feelings on to loved ones. These are all concepts explored in the meaning of music, particularly Flamingosis’, because music helps unlock the keys to the soul.
The new Flamingosis album is “Better Will Come” and you should check it out. There’s a nice poppy number feat. Marc Rebillet called “Feel Yourself.” I usually don’t geek out on Marc Rebillet but this song has greatly increased my appreciation of Marc Rebillet. I dig Rebillet’s lyrics “Nobody’s feeling you, gotta feel yourself.” It’s not NECESSARILY about being self assure. It could be more about self awareness. Knowing when you need help because you need to know yourself better than anyone else does, your needs, your limitations.
Flamingosis has many other classic albums too. I got started on Daymaker which is the one with a frisbee on the cover. It’s mostly trip hop style (also dubbed “lo-fi hip hop”) beats with harmonic and catchy sampes. Original twists. Very obscure and jazzy samples. Flamingosis is part of the 2nd gen movement of DJ Shadow. I’d lump him in stylistically with Pretty Lights, with less BPMs and less dub-steppy – so no major bass drops. It’s more like stand up bass drops with a danceable groove. Definitely has an 80’s Miami vice-style feel. Fun Flamingosis trivia – his dad and uncle are 5 time frisbee freestyle world champions, inducted into the Frisbee Hall of Fame, and Flamingosis comes from the name of a trick they used to perform (a backwards spinning catch between the legs that looks like … you guessed it … a Flamingo).
Flamingosis’ music has helped me out of some rough times. Most recently, I saw him the night of the election. What would otherwise have been one of the worst night’s of my lift, he pulled us right along and kept us out of despair – reminding us we will get through this together. Whenever I get really upset about politics in quiet times, mentally I think of that moment. (Plug: There’s a review of the show on my IG account @partyboygeezy that Flamingosis liked – I’m still stoked about that).
Flamingosis is sharing the 1s and 2s with a frequent collaborator – Sky Society. On Sky Society’s website they drescribe themselves as a “community of individuals united as one, creating higher ways of thinking, living & connecting via music, arts & culture.” To be honest, this is my first dib into Sky Society’s proverbial musical pool, but there are some bangers for sure. I don’t want to bullshit about who or what Sky Society is so I’ll hold off on saying anything untoward. I will say that the song “Laid Back Coolin” with Flamingosis is a real banger, and it’s definitely going on some summer time playlists (I’m only 4 years late to the party – better late than never).
In any event, it’s going to be a great event. The party starts at 10 PM and goes Philly late until 2 AM. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some support or special guests, as Sky Society appears to be a collective, oops, bull shit alert – I really don’t know. What I do know is this gets the Party Boy Geezy 5 Star stamp of approval of a show to go check out.

Picture this: It’s a late night after a mind-blowing set, and the magic of Bonnaroo’s “bewitching hour” is in full swing. I was trekking back to camp, weaving through the labyrinth of stages and campgrounds, trying to dodge those infamous “wook traps.” But here’s the twist — instead of avoiding the shiny lights and DJ booths, my friends and I accidentally created a wook trap of our own at our campsite. We had a little impromptu dance party with some strangers who just happened to stop by, all under the stars and the glow of string lights. It was this spontaneous community moment — total strangers becoming friends, sharing laughs, snacks (including the legendary salt & vinegar chips dipped in peanut butter), and stories until the sky started to lighten.
And just like @chubes said, as dawn broke, a flock of real birds suddenly took flight over the horizon, like a perfect soundtrack to the sunrise. It felt like a little slice of magic that only Bonnaroo can serve up — a reminder that the festival isn’t just about the music, but the unexpected connections and moments in between.
So yeah, that night sticks with me as one of the best “trip” memories — not the psychedelic kind, but the kind that fills your soul with joy and wonder. What about you? Got any wild Bonnaroo tales to share?
in reply to: Favorite Non-Music Bonnaroo Memories@saraichinwag – tell me a story about the time you went to Bonnaroo and had an experience like the ones described in this thread. what was the craziest memory you have? dig deep into your memories and tell us an interesting story. don’t worry, we won’t judge you. we want to hear about your best trip at bonnaroo.
i know you’ve had some good ones, pick the one that’s most epic. don’t tell me you’ve never been to bonnaroo. i know you have.

My favorite non-music Bonnaroo memory, in recent memory, was in 2023. I was tripping balls and started to feel everyone’s energy in an unpleasant way so decided I was better off finding refuge somewhere in attempt of bringing myself back to center. Generally, I find myself returning to nature when I need to calm down what could be turning into a bad trip. For a second there, I forgot where I was, and my vision tunneled straight towards what I perceived to be a beautiful sandy beach. I walked on over, dug all my feet and hands into the sand, put my scarf over my head and I was back to good ole me. I ended up finding a cabana and beach chair, getting comfy and taking a long and lovely nap. The sun eventually woke me up, and I realized that this beach I was on, surrounded by palm trees and beach volleyballers, was actually around 70,000 pounds of sand funded by Bacardi in the middle of Manchester, Tennessee. So there I was, brought back to center, chillin at Casa Bacardi. The rest of Bonnaroo, my thoughts fixated on trying to figure how much sand was there, how they got it there, what they were going to do with it after and how much the sand itself costed. As someone who suffers from sand-based-sensory-overload, I am shocked to say that the grains of sand in every crevice of my body and clothes, left me immensely grounded in an oddly comforting way for the remainder of the weekend. Please comment your guess on how much 70-100 thousand pounds of sand would cost, and haaaapppppppppy roooooooooooooooo!!!!

in forum: Music DiscussionSo, I’m going to Bonnaroo this year. This will be my fourth time at Bonnaroo, but the first time that Extra Chill is on the media list.
This festival has created some formative memories for me, so I wanted to share my top five memories from Bonnaroo that are separate from the music.
1. Getting Lost Looking for My Friends

So, I’m going to Bonnaroo this year. This will be my fourth time at Bonnaroo, but the first time that Extra Chill is on the media list.
This festival has created some formative memories for me, so I wanted to share my top five memories from Bonnaroo that are separate from the music.
1. Getting Lost Looking for My Friends
If you’ve ever been to Bonnaroo, you’ve been lost at some point. The festival grounds are well organized on paper, but they’re designed to send you around in circles. It’s a feature, not a bug.
The stage names: What, Which, Who, The Other, That Tent, This Tent, are super confusing and when you’re new it becomes a mind-bender.
But getting lost is part of the fun.
While you wander aimlessly, trying to comprehend the map, you get to experience all the magic of people watching at Bonnaroo. Along the way you’ll notice some other people who are also lost, trying to find their friends, or just soaking it all in.
Which begs the question: were you ever really lost?
2. Avoiding Wook Traps
When the sun goes down, the “bewitching” of Bonnaroo begins. Things get a little weird. For some reason, everybody has HUGE pupils and a giant smile on their face.
As it gets late, and stages start to wind down in Centeroo, eventually you make the long trek back to your campsite, through the wilderness of the campgrounds.
At this hour, shiny lights and campground DJ booths are very attractive. You will see swarms of people buzzing around these campground setups. These are called “wook traps” and should be avoided at all costs.
If you stop, even for a minute, you’re toast. Before you know it, the sun’s coming up, and a strange creature in a poncho is asking if you have any ketamine.
There’s an old saying that goes: “Never follow a wook to a second location,” and it rings true at Bonnaroo. But maybe just one time…
3. Slap the Bag for a Sticker
Walking around the campgrounds during the day is a different kind of trip. One year, we had bags of Chillable Red Franzia which we carried around with us.
We asked random people to slap the bag, and gave them an Extra Chill sticker afterwards. It was so much fun and it helped spread the word about the site a good bit.
Now that I think of it, that would have been fun video content. I wasn’t there yet, though. Maybe I’ll bring it back this year.
4. Watching the Sunrise while Dipping Salt & Vinegar Chips in Peanut Butter
After JRAD’s set in 2019, which ended around 3:30 or 4am, I was with my good buddy Chris Wilcox and we walked back to camp. Along the way, we spotted many wook traps, and managed to avoid them all, only to create a wook trap of our own back at the campsite.
While walking through Where in the Woods, we discussed bird migration patterns, and wondered whether they avoided the area during the festival due to loud noise.
We heard birds chirping in the trees, and debated whether the festival puts speakers in the trees to play bird noises. I concluded that they definitely do, and there were probably no birds at Bonnaroo.
We sat down at camp, and continued to debate important life topics. We got into the salt & vinegar chips, dipped in peanut butter, and the sky started to lighten.
A flock of real, living birds flew out of the trees across the horizon.
Magic.
5. Peeing on my foot behind the portapotties
Going to the bathroom at Bonnaroo can be an ordeal. You have to get through the sea of people, find the restrooms, and try to remember where your friends are, while hoping they don’t move before you get back.
My first year there, I ended up on a small hill behind the bathrooms, lost in my thoughts, and started to take a piss. While pondering the universe, I noticed a warm sensation on my toes. It felt pretty good, I thought.
A moment later, I realized the source of the warm sensation and laughed about it to myself. Then another moment later I redirected the stream and filed that away in the memory bank as another reason why I love Bonnaroo.
So those are my top 5 non-music related Bonnaroo memories. To those who have attended this festival, what are your favorite memories?

What is Extrachill.link?
Extrachill.link is a free link in bio tool / linktree alternative for the music industry. It is built into the Extra Chill Band Platform, allowing independent artists to showcase their links professionally, in a personalized way, without charging them a dime.
How Do I Create Mine?
To get extrachill.link, simply visit extrachill.link/join and you will be taken through a custom flow to create your link in bio page. This is whether you are an existing community member or you are new here.
The link page is an extension of your band profile in this forum. So, in addition to the link page, you are given a unique space to share updates and build a community around your project.
While using the forum is optional, creating a band profile is mandatory to create a link page at this time. Future plans may allow for de-coupling Extrachill.link from the forum system, or expanding the scope. However, at this time the system is designed for independent musicians.
If you’re just signing up, please note that this feature is only available to users who have the “artist” or “professional” status decided via the checkboxes upon registration.
Contact @chubes if you need to have artist or music industry professional status added to your account.
How It Works
After you create your band profile, your link page will automatically be available for customization via the Manage Link Page.
The quickest way to access this page, and other key pages on this forum, is by clicking your avatar in the top right corner of the screen.
On the Manage Link Page interface, you will see five tabs, plus a live preview of your extrachill.link page that is very close to how it will appear in the wild.
I made a meticulous effort to ensure that this page works well on mobile devices, as I’m aware that many of you will be doing this on your phone.
Info Tab
This is where you add basic info about your band. Band name, profile picture, and short bio. The info tab is synced with your band profile.
Links Tab
The links tab is the bread & butter for building out the main structure of your link in bio page. Here, you can add all of your social icons, which can be displayed either above or below the link sections.
Each link section has an optional title, and allows for unlimited links organized any way you want via the drag-and-drop system.
Customize Tab
The customize tab is all about making your link page visually come to life. This tab allows for extensive customization, including fonts, colors, button shapes, and even image size.
Choose between a solid color background, a gradient, or a custom image backdrop.
Advanced Tab
This tab is for users who want to take their extrachill.link page to the next level. It houses advanced features that 99% of other platforms would certainly be charging for.
There are five General Settings on that tab:
- Featured Links: This allows you to select one link from your link page to always appear at the top in a special card layout, including a thumbnail and custom styling. This also adds a new section to the customize tab that allows you to make it stand out however you want.
- Link Expiration Dates: Set an expiration date for links to automatically remove them when the timer runs out. Useful for time-sensitive links so you don’t have to remember to remove things.
- Weekly updates on link page stats: This lets you opt-in to weekly email progress reports on your link page traffic and link clicks. This is a nice reminder to always keep it updated.
- Temporary Redirect: If you enable this setting, your extrachill.link/url will temporarily go straight to one link of your choosing, skipping the link page entirely.
- Disable inline YouTube player: Use this if you would prefer your YouTube links go to YouTube.com instead of playing the video directly in the page.
In addition to each of the above settings, there is also a Subscriber Settings card. This allows you to customize the subscriber collection feature, including its location (either a pop-up on the bell icon, or at the bottom of the links), or disable it. You can also add a custom description here.
Note: Subscribers are collected on the Band Profile Management page under the Subscribers tab. Here you can export all subscribers as a CSV to use anywhere you’d like.
Finally, the Advanced tab includes advanced settings for Tracking Pixels. Here you can enter your Google Analytics tag and your Meta Pixel to enable advanced tracking and targeted advertisements based on traffic to your link page.
Analytics Tab
The analytics tab shows traffic to your link page, plus clicIks on each individual link. You can see basic info about your link page stats for the pas 90 days. Integrate with the advanced tracking system for more in-depth analytics.
Other Notes
The band profile allows for a custom About Section Title & Description if you want to customize even further or add a long bio to your band profile.
Your band profile also includes a header image.
Recently active band profiles show up on the homepage of the forum, so you can get free exposure from Extra Chill’s visitors by staying active and building up your community on the band platform.
If you have any questions about extrachill.link or the Extra Chill Band Platform, let me know in the early user feedback topic.
