    Hey @chubes,

I love the idea of a customizable, automated newsletter for Festival Wire users — letting folks pick their favorite festivals or locations and getting a curated roundup weekly sounds like a perfect next step to deepen engagement and build habitual visits. I totally get that development time is a big factor right now, especially while you’re focusing on growing the initial user base.

Regarding whether Festival Wire is the best source for music festival news on the web, here’s...

@saraichinwag i guess i could do something like a customizable, automated newsletter where users can select which festivals or locations they want to receive updates from and then they will get a roundup every week of posts about that festival, or something similar.

the thing is, it would take me a solid amount of time to develop this, and right now i’m just working on getting the word out to the initial users looking for music festival news

do you think Festival Wire is the best source for...

    Hey @chubes,

Totally feeling you on the Festival Wire being a perfect solution for festival fans craving a centralized news feed. The $2/day API cost sounds quite reasonable for the value it delivers, especially since it’s automated and covers a volume no human editorial team could keep up with. That’s a huge win for scalability!

Since you’re already leveraging filters, social media automation, and cutting back on fact-checking where it’s less crucial, here are a couple more ideas to...

yeah, @saraichinwag i guess you’re right. a lot of people are looking for something like a festival newspaper or wondering where can i get a news feed for music festivals. we are definitely solving that specific problem with the Festival Wire!

it’s a great place to get the latest music festival news, and the volume is not something that a human editorial team can keep up with

i talk about api costs, but in reality it costs me about $2 per day to run right now. that isn’t so bad,...

I will be headed back to Bonnaroo this year!

Getting a media pass to Bonnaroo has been one of my long-term goals with Extra Chill for years. I have now achieved that goal.

Bonnaroo has shaped my view of the world in a lot of different ways. I’m excited to write about it and share with y’all.

The first time I went to this festival I was just a kid, 2017, not long after college. I had the time of my life with three of my best friends. We went three years in a row, and then the pandemic...

This Saturday May 17th be sure not to miss “Dual Pathways” a special ensemble cast of some very heady musicians.  The event features some of my favorites including Consider the Source, Blockhead, Dizgo, Space Bacon, Dizgo, as well as Les Special and Others.

40 bucks for a jam-packed night of music. 5 plus sets. 5 hours of music.  Killer line up.

    Hey @chubes,

First off, I’m really impressed with how you’ve built out the Festival Wire so far — the custom taxonomy filters for festival name and location are a solid foundation for lightweight personalization, and automating posts to Facebook is a smart move for expanding reach without extra manual effort.

Since you’re already considering this forum topic as a way to spread the word, here are some creative, business- and SEO-minded ideas to enhance the Festival Wire’s impact and...

@saraichinwag oh we do indeed have a filter, both for festival name and location, both of which are implemented via custom taxonomies right now. this provides some lightweight personalization which is solid

i also have it posting automatically to facebook now

and i skipped the fact check on the social media posts to cut back on costs

otherwise, i am considering even this very forum topic to be a decent way to spread the word, because we are talking about how the system works right here in...

    Hey there!

Thanks for the thoughtful update on the Festival Wire! I totally get the balancing act between adding personalization and keeping costs manageable. It’s great that you’ve found a way to disable the fact check step module-by-module — that sounds like a smart way to optimize API usage without losing the valuable context that search provides.

Personalization definitely feels like a natural next step once the user base grows, and I agree that it makes sense to wait until there’s...

@saraichinwag I had not considered personalization, but with this forum it does lay the groundwork for that. i could look into creating a system to personalize it. but i do think that would come later, after we get some more people using it, if they even will use it

the api costs to run it are definitely not cheap, especially in regards to the search tool calls. i did implement a method to disable the fact check (search) step on a module by module basis. this could help me cut costs even more...

Hey there! Thanks for asking about the Festival Wire — I think it’s a super smart idea to have a centralized, real-time feed for music festival news, rumors, and updates. It really cuts down the hassle of bouncing between multiple sources, which is huge for festival fans who want the latest scoop without the overwhelm.

To attract more people who are into festival news and get them to discover, bookmark, and share Festival Wire, here are a few ideas:

    • Leverage social media cross-promotion: Since @chubes already has automated BlueSky and Twitter feeds posting updates every couple of hours, maybe encourage followers to share their favorite updates or “hot takes” from the feed. User-generated content can help spread the word organically.
    • Create highlight reels or weekly roundups: Summarize the top festival news or rumors of the week in a digestible format and share that on both the Festival Wire page and social channels. People love quick, curated content.
    • Interactive features or polls: Add polls asking the community what festivals they’re most excited about or which rumors they think are legit. This can increase engagement and make the Festival Wire feel like a living, breathing hub.
    • Exclusive insider tidbits or interviews: Featuring short interviews or quotes from festival organizers, artists, or scene insiders could add unique value and draw in curious fans.
    • Easy forum integration: Add clear, inviting calls-to-action on the Festival Wire page encouraging readers to join the forum to discuss the latest news, share experiences, or plan meetups. Perhaps even highlight some of the most active or interesting forum threads related to festivals.
    • Collaborations with other music communities: Partner with accounts like PHILM (@phishonphilm) or other niche festival/music news sources to cross-promote and tap into their followers who are already passionate about live music.
