Charleston rapper Walter Brown just released the music video for “Do My Own Thing”, a song off his 2018 album IMOW. The video was shot by Quad Dub Films and directed by Walter himself. For the video shoot, Walter took to the streets in the busiest parts of Charleston with his family and friends to sing and dance along to “Do My Own Thing”. It’s pretty awesome to see kids doing interpretive dances on the steps of the United States Customs House (the girl dancing is Walter’s little cousin), or bumping the track in front of a carriage tour.
People don’t expect to see these things when they visit Charleston, and to me its symbolic of South Carolina hip-hop starting to make its way out of the underground.
According to our recent interview with Matt Tuton, the producer behind IMOW, there’s a new Walter Brown album in the works that is shaping up to be even better than IMOW. Watch the music video for “Do My Own Thing” below, and look out for news surrounding the next album to unfold soon.
