The Witness Marks – “Better Man”

This morning, Columbia-based folk rock band The Witness Marks are releasing a new single, “Better Man”. The song comes from their self-titled debut album which will see release on May 24th. The Witness Marks are led by songwriter Ethan Fogus, who has been releasing music as a solo artist since 2013.
“Better Man” is the second single off The Witness Marks, with the first being “Change Your Name” that made its debut with Scene SC last week. The vibe of The Witness Marks is similar to what a band like Deer Tick captures, and “Better Man” specifically reminds me of the Deer Tick song “Sea of Clouds”. The rolling acoustic guitar is what initially invites you to listen to the lyrics, which tell a story of pretending to be a better person towards a past loved one for just one more night.
