Over the last few years, there has been a shift in the realm of black arts and entertainment in Charleston. At the center of it all, is The Poor Rich Kollective. The Poor Rich Kollective is a cohort of like minded individuals that thrive in the focuses of music, fashion, art, theater, dance, business and more. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with founder Demetria McNeil, and a few of the members of PRK to discuss the brand, its impact, and future in Charleston and beyond.
PRK currently consists of members from Charleston, Columbia, Georgia, and Texas that all stand on the principles of spiritual, mental, and physical health, community leadership, and creative and artistic freedom — the 5 pillars of PRK. The depth of the PRK roster is indeed one of their strong-suits, with over 50 members in the Southeast. With so many exceptionally talented people of various niches and vocations dedicated to elevating one central cause-the potential is infinite.
It was a pleasure to dig deep with PRK and learn more about the history, culture, intention and upcoming plans from The Poor Rich Kollective – Charleston’s rising cornerstone in professional, young, black entertainment, bred from the roots of Charleston.
