Brave Baby have dug into the archives to release a new single in advance of their headlining set at Lofi Brewing for An Extra Chill New Years Eve. “Blue Year” is the first new release from Brave Baby since the release of the fan-favorite “Soothsayer” in 2017, and their set on NYE will be their first live appearance since opening for SUSTO at the Music Farm on Halloween 2019. The track officially drops tomorrow, but we’ve got an early listen for all of you right here on Extra Chill.
“Blue Year” is a seasonally-appropriate song about the end of another strange year, that the band is glad to see come to an end. Keon Masters sings over Brave Baby’s signature in-motion arrangement about pouring champagne on ice, “’cause it’s 80 degrees outside, this is so f*ckin’ weird”.
While Brave Baby wrote this song in 2016, the theme of a year that we all want to end is even more applicable today, at the end of 2021, than anybody could have imagined it to be back in 2016. The band dusted this one off for the show and have been busy tuning up the rest of the classics from both their albums in preparation for the blowout year-end party that we all need.
According to Brave Baby, “Blue Year” is just the first taste of new music that we will hear from them, so we can expect that there is more to follow in 2022.
Don’t miss Brave Baby at Lofi Brewing this Friday night for An Extra Chill New Years Eve, where they’ll be joined by Human Resources, Slim & The Psycodelics, Tennis Courts, and Aggie Flores. Get your tickets here, and listen to “Blue Year” below.
