On Tuesday, September 17th, Mt. Joy brought their fall tour to Charleston’s Firefly Distillery for a beautiful night of music under a full moon. Mt. Joy performed two sets, a format that they have been experimenting with since their 2023 Spring Tour, with a 30-minute setbreak.
With red and orange lighting on stage and the full harvest moon in the sky, photographer Maren McGuire reports that it felt like ringing in Fall together at the show. The band mentioned how their last Charleston show, in November 2023, was also a under full moon.
Mt. Joy played the unreleased song “She Wants to Go Dancing” and it was a big hit with the crowd. For the slower song, “Bathroom Light,” the whole crowd went silent to listen to Matt Quinn sing. The setlist also included unique takes on classic covers like “Dancing Queen,” “Where Is My Mind?”, and “You’re so Vain.” Their most popular song, “Silver Lining” closed down the set, with “Astrovan” and “Julia” played in the encore.
Overall, this was both a great showing from Mt. Joy and according to Maren, an extremely friendly crowd to be part of, with many new friends being made. Enjoy a photo gallery from the show below!
