    Melt – “Walk to Midnight”
    Published: July 14, 2023

NYC-based indie soul band Melt just released their newest single, “Walk to Midnight”. The single comes during a summer of festival appearances that has them winning over audiences all over the country. This is exactly what happened to me at Peach Fest a few weeks back, and from here on out I am on a mission to bring this band to Charleston for the first time.

Melt were formed in 2017 by vocalist Veronica Stewart-Frommer and keyboardist/vocalist Eric Frommer, who were in high school at the time. Their first-ever song was the powerful “Sour Candy”, recorded using funds from they got from winning a battle of the bands.

The now-seven piece band released their debut EP in 2021 and features a collection of songs written in an NYC apartment during the peak of the pandemic. Now they are in the process of recording and releasing new songs, for what we can only hope will be a full-length album.

“Walk to Midnight” is an upbeat jaunt that explores being in a position of power, while pretending that you have nothing to do with the risky decisions you’re making, and ignoring the impacts that these decisions have on other people. It’s a fiery attack on politicians and corporations, that also encourages self-reflection for those who find themselves in these positions.

“Do you know where you’ve been?”, Veronica sings. “Took the weekend to gamble our planet away / you wanted to own it / Honey, it ain’t yours to take.”

They’re already getting some serious traction in NYC, with their next show being their headline debut at the renowned Brooklyn Steel on September 15th that is looking likely to sell out. It’s only a matter of time before they play (and crush) at the Charleston Pour House.

Listen to “Walk to Midnight” by Melt below, and check them out doing it live at NYC’s The Bunker studio in January 2022 below that.
