Atlanta duo Lowertown have caught our ear with their newest single “Best Person You Know”, which was released on Friday along with a DIY-style music video shot on film. “Best Person You Know” is a distorted lo-fi acoustic jam about maintaining a friendship with a person whose life is on a steady downward spiral, who is perhaps trying unintentionally to bring you down with them. It’s ripe with existential dread and frustration, with and it comes from the band’s upcoming EP, which is slated for release in December on Dirty Hit Records.
The music video is an exaggerated take on the kind of toxic relationship lamented in the song, and it features scene after scene of band members Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg doing a repetitive dance of backstabbing murders. It’s sillier and warmer in practice than it sounds, and it suits the somewhat off-putting feel of the song quite nicely.
