    Human Resources – “Girlfriend’s House”
    Published: March 13, 2020

Human Resources decided it was worth it to release a new single called “Girlfriend’s House”. The track made its debut yesterday with Glide Magazine, and marks the band’s first new original since the release of their 2018 album Champagne. It follows the release of the “Expectations” music video and the Persona La Ave remix to “Sylvia”, both released earlier this year.

“Girlfriend’s House” shows a directional shift for Human Resources, who leap from the synth-driven sound that dominated Champagne into a more funked up universe. The song starts off with a hook that brings up the energy right away. The energy then escalates throughout, and almost feels like one big series of hooks strung together, hitting one after another.

I remember being in the studio with HR while this track was in the production phase, and they were discussing how to make “Girlfriend’s House” as much of a banger as possible. I’ll let you decide if they accomplished that.

Speaking of the studio, Human Resources drummer Matt Zutell recently closed the doors on his downtown Coast Records studio space and moved into a larger, more professional space in North Charleston. See a photo reel from moving day here.

If Coronavirus doesn’t wreck the world before then, Human Resources are poised to play The Royal American next Friday, March 20th with Arson Daily and Auntie Ayi. This will be their first local show since November. Facebook event here.
