Columbia, SC: 7 Hip Hop Artists to Know
Dredoe
Artist, model, and actor Dredoe is one of many multitalented artists from Columbia that are helping build the bridge between Columbia and Charleston. Besides being a member of DTM Management, a respected label by Dajon Tee, he is also a part of PoorRichKollective—a rising movement in entertainment and arts in Charleston. This year, Dredoe has dropped a single and full-length album Dremendous, completed several model walks with independent businesses, and has been making more appearances on the live stages from Columbia to Charleston.
Eezy Olah
As an emcee, I feel one of the most impressive feats is being a rapper while being fluenT (hard ‘T’) on an instrument. Eezy Olah is not only an elite rapper and vocalist—he’s ice cold on multiple instruments, especially the bass. His style is raw, vulnerable, and is a representation of the versatility that exists in Columbia, SC. Alike many of his other Cola counterparts, he curates his own events and creates avenues for independent artists of all genres to thrive in the live scene through his Carolinas Coolest Creator brand. Yet, another artist that is transcending the sound in their city and teaming up with others to create a brand and platform for creatives.
JB SamSon
soulful.joyous.retrospective.wise. These are just a few words to describe the sound and feel of artist JB SamSon. JB is also an artist that sings, raps, produces, and plays an instrument at a high level. Since 2023, he’s been consistently releasing singles that have led to the 3rd addition to his Overthought album series: Overthought 3: Learning to Float. With an influx of releases, live performances in and out of Columbia, JB SamSon is definitely a name to know in Columbia’s growing music community. Smooth delivery, silky vocals, intentional songwriting, and motivation to remain steadfast. Check it out and tap in!
Kuzco Da Foo
Go Getta World artist, Kuzco Da Foo has been a pillar for Columbia’s ‘boot to the ground’ underground rap scene. His breakthrough song “Another Lick” hit 1 million views this year after its 2022 release. After a few setbacks, Kuzco hit the ground running this year with multiple releases and quality features. Tap in, as he continues to break the threshold from the streets into the industry waves, and still keep it concrete.
PATx
Creator of PSYCHii & The ExTRAS community, PATx is a self-produced recording artist based in Soda City. He is known for fusing various musical styles, including hip hop, alternative, and metal. In addition to his music career, PATx is also a filmmaker and visual artist, showcasing a multifaceted approach to what it means to be an artist. The value of PATx is beyond music and that’s what I enjoy most about his brand. But don’t get it twisted—PATx is nothing to play with on wax as you can see on his two recent releases “Diva” and “Murray”.
Ruby Rae
Ruby Rae has been making waves since she released her debut project Winter Came Early in 2023, which earned her a dedicated fanbase that is now bleeding outside of South Carolina. Building on that momentum, Ruby Rae has released several features and singles in 2024, including “Triggered” and her most recent feature release with Kuzco Da Foo, “Energy,” which has continued to keep ‘the Rose blooming’.
Tam The Viibe
Creator of TheViibration and member of The Black Nerd Mafia, Tam The Viibe is a multifaceted artist and overall creative that is helping create a new wave of what hip hop sounds and looks like coming from the metro. From curating events in Columbia and Charleston to transcending her sound by incorporating live instrumentation with her DemBoyzGood band, Tam is one of many talented, #GxldApproved trailblazers in her community of creatives.
