Faded Freestyles: Malcolm FL3X Fosters Collaboration in Charleston Hip-Hop
Published: July 17, 2024Malcolm FL3X is an artist and performer who is currently establishing himself as an entrepreneur within the coasts of Charleston with Faded Circle Entertainment. Established with a clear vision in mind, Fl3X articulates the essence of Faded Circle as a collective endeavor aimed at uniting talented individuals driven by a shared passion for creating a life of freedom and fulfillment. This ethos underscores the brand’s commitment not only to its members, but also to the broader community, echoing a spirit of inclusivity and collaboration in this growing Charleston hip-hop scene.
In order to understand where Faded Circle is going, we must know where it came from. I had a chance to link up with founder Malcolm Fl3X to discuss this and more. When asked about the birth of the name, Fl3x painted a picture of divine happenings:
“The name came about a long time ago when my cousin (Dante), my brother (Pat), and I were hanging out,” Malcolm states. “We were freestyling and getting “Faded” and later found a street sign that said “Faded Cir.” and the stars just aligned. In a way the name somewhat found us.”
Faded Circle’s emblem is just as straightforward as the name — it’s a circle, fading off into the distance in bits and fractals. After talking and building with Malcolm FL3X, you quickly learn the meaning of the emblem is based around the age-old concept that your circle of associates decreases (fades) when you really stand ten toes on your personal journey of betterment, fulfillment, and freedom. Snakes must shed, flowers must prune, and the rain must fall, in order to grow.
At the heart of Faded Circle’s initiatives lies Faded Freestyles, a pioneering contribution to the current landscape of hip hop in Charleston.
“The Faded Freestyles is one of our very first contributions, aside from throwing shows and sponsorships in the local music scene.” he said. “We wanted to create a unique platform for artists and producers to showcase their talents.”
Faded Freestyles serve as a creative outlet for artists to showcase their lyrical prowess and production skills, fostering a supportive environment for independent talents to shine. By championing creatives, Faded Circle stays true to its roots, emphasizing the importance of highlighting the rich community of talent within the Charleston hip hop scene.

The very first Faded Freestyle featured an instrumental and cameo from local super-producer Ben Beam, as Malcolm took to an empty Soul Inn Studios and dropped a wavy verse to introduce the Faded Freestyles concept to the world. Episode 2, set to the backdrop of Lo-Fi Brewing, initiated the first artist feature as FL3X teamed up with local lyricist and one half of rap group Skip Lo’, Apollo Valdez.

“Although our plan is to expand and grow exponentially, as of now our focus is to highlight the local scene by using staple locations, featuring local artists and producers” he concluded.
As Faded Circle continues to evolve and expand its footprint, FL3X’s dedication to uplifting the local music community remains steadfast. Through organizing shows and providing sponsorships, the brand actively contributes to the growth and exposure of thriving and emerging artists.
“I make sure we give back to the community and our supporters in many different ways. One of my personal favorites was our part in sponsoring a hole in an all girls golf tournament called, ‘Girls Gone Golfing’. We mingled with some of the golf ladies, took photos, and even gave out free merch.” Malcolm said.
“Faded Circle has put on a few shows.” he began, as we talked about Faded Circle’s contributions to the local hip hop community. “Notably, a collaboration with local producer and artist Tyrie, in which we brought another Carolina artist, Austin Semo, to one of our home stages at LoFi Brewing.”
He continued, “We also did a collaborative Halloween themed show at The Purple Buffalo with hip hop artist TJ Pettiglio aka The Microphone Madone.”
By leveraging staple locations and collaborations with local talents, ‘Faded Freestyles’ stay deeply rooted in its mission to celebrate and elevate the diverse array of voices shaping the city’s cultural landscape.
In essence, Malcolm FL3X’s Faded Circle adds to the creativity and community being harvested in the Charleston hip hop scene. Joining a network of like-minded individuals driven by a common goal, the brand not only cultivates a sense of belonging but a culture of mutual support and growth.
As Malcolm FL3X and Faded Circle continue to make strides fostering artistic expression, they join the artisans and trailblazers as a part of the dynamic and inclusive future of Charleston’s hip hop community.
