Butterfly is Charleston’s Newest Garage Rock Band
    Published: August 22, 2017

With a little help from his friends The Dumbest Kids in School, local musician Joey Haines started a garage rock band called Butterfly. The band just released a 4 track EP called Baby Heart Break. Joey wrote, recorded, and produced the songs in his bedroom at 3 Bogard Street in downtown Charleston, a house that has been host to shows from bands like Heyrocco, The Dumbest Kids in School, William Wild, and Cereus Bright. Charlie Cook of The Dumbest Kids in School played drums on the recordings, and will serve as drummer in the band going forward.

Joey listened to a lot of Twin Peaks, White Reaper, and Cage the Elephant while preparing the songs for the Butterfly EP, and the influence shines through in the guitar-driven tracks of Baby Heartbreak. Most of the songs started with the writing of a chorus, and from there moved on to either a guitar riff or a melody. This process has resulted in four songs that are full of energy and purposely a little rough around the edges.

Butterfly is currently working to solidify a lineup so we can hear these songs performed live. In the meantime, Joey and Charlie have been putting in time on Butterfly’s next release, Red Hot, which is coming soon. Listen to the debut EP Baby Heartbreak below.
